Making the sustainable switch to reusable makeup pads

Do you ever struggle with a bad conscience when using disposable sing-use cotton pads? You're not alone! It is something we often hear from customers who are delighted to find a guilt free solution and it is what drove me to create our Reusable Organic Cotton Makeup Pads three years ago.

With a teenage daughter in the house, I was shocked at how many disposable pads she was going through on a weekly basis. Something that didn’t sit well with me from an environmental waste perspective, nor my wallet!

So, the need to have a reusable solution was born.

While there are many synthetic/microfibre options on the market, we wanted a natural fibre product that would be hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. Devoid of pesticides, herbicides and synthetic properties.

It was also critical that they be long lasting, easy care and versatile.

Both my daughter and I use our reusable makeup pads as part of our daily skin care regime but what’s interesting is that we use them in completely different ways. For me, I still like to give my face an all over cleanse using our beautiful face cloths and will then use our makeup pads to apply eye makeup remover and apply toner. My daughter on the other hand, starts with the makeup pads and micellar water for her initial cleanse.

Our makeup pads do come double sided with a charcoal grey side for cleaning off eye makeup as well as a white side for those wanting to check everything is nicely cleaned.

I tend to wash them by hand as I go and leave to dry whereas my daughter drops them straight into a wash bag ready for the washing machine.

We do recommend you use a clean make up pad each time to prevent the spread of natural skin bacteria.

I love that I’ve not had the need to purchase disposable single-use pads in three years and no longer feel guilty about contributing to the waste problem.
